Judge Patricia M. Filiberto has served as a Judge for 18 years, as District Court and Acting County Court Judge, handling thousands of criminal and civil trials and dispositions.  Currently, she serves as the Guardianship Court Judge in Suffolk County where she protects the interests of older adults who because of physical or mental disability are vulnerable to abuse. She has earned a reputation as a fair, hard working, no-nonsense Judge, dedicated to serving the interests of justice.

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto is the former Presiding Judge of the Suffolk County Drug Treatment Court, established as an alternative to incarceration for persons with substance addiction and approved by the District Attorney’s Office.

The Chief Judge of NYS appointed Judge Patricia M. Filiberto in 1999 to the NYS Family Violence Task Force which updates all judges on important issues including domestic violence, sexual assault, and concerns of the elderly.  Judge Patricia M. Filiberto is the only Suffolk County Judge who serves on this task force!

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto is a former Senior Prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for a decade, where she prosecuted DWI’s involving serious physical injury and death.

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto is a former Assistant County Attorney, where she handled Family Court matters, State and Federal Litigation and Appeals, and County Contracts.  

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto is a former Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at SUNY – Stony Brook for almost 10 years.

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto has lectured to the Suffolk County Bar Association and trained the Suffolk DA’s Office and the Suffolk Police on Megan’s Law, the Sex Offender Registration Act.

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto was chosen “Judge of the Year” by the Suffolk Columbian Lawyers Association and was named a “Woman of Distinction” by the NYS Senate.

Judge Patricia M. Filiberto’s colleagues elected her President of 5 different organizations:  the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association, the NYS Confederation of Columbian Lawyers Association (Italian-American Lawyers Association), the Suffolk County District Court Judges’ Association, the Suffolk County Columbian Lawyers Association, and the St. John’s University School of Law Suffolk Alumni Association.

Judge Patrica M. Filiberto is a member of the Order of the Sons of Italy – Anthony Casamento Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary – West Islip, and Zonta International Women’s Organization.

As a resident of the Suffolk County for more than 45 years, Judge Patricia M. Filiberto has a vested interest in Long Island’s communities where she raised her family.
